This stunning young bison cow obviously has a high status in her herd at Jumpoff, SD.  When I studied different groups within this large herd, she stepped out away from her “family” and she let me know that even 50 feet from her was too close.  When there is a perceived threat, bison will stand their ground and raise their tails to signal not to come any closer.  Although she did not have a calf by her side to protect, there were many other cows in her immediate herd with calves.
