A Lesson for the Calf

The Story
My husband and I were visiting some friends who have a bison ranch in Texas.  We were cruising in an SUV through the pasture of over a hundred of these beautiful animals, when I saw a bison cow and her 2 month old calf standing in a pond.  As you might guess, it was the beginning of a scorching hot summer.  (Although, growing up in Texas, it was never unusual to experience at least 86 degrees on Christmas Day.)  It looked like the cow was content, but the calf seemed a bit fidgety as if to say “all I want to do is get out of here, I don’t know why I’m here.”
